Meet the Counselors

Ashley Shaver

Academy of Art, Design, & Communication

 

Mrs. Shaver is starting her 11th year as a school counselor at Hillwood High School. This is her 17th year at Hillwood where prior she was a Special Education teacher. She received her undergraduate degree at Tennessee State University in Special Education.  After teaching for 6 years she received her Masters in School Counseling from Tennessee State University. While finishing grad school, Mrs. Shaver had the opportunity to do her high school internship at Hillwood.

 

She is involved in many different areas of counseling such as master schedule, testing coordinator, ACT accommodations coordinator and Edgenuity coordinator, as well as scheduling college visits for our students. She has been involved in many presentations and trainings, including presenting for NCAC national conference and Tennessee Counseling conference as well as Ford HUB tours, that have helped her better herself as a school counselor within her academy and the school. Her strength as a school counselor is working with students on their post secondary plans.  She is also Prom sponsor.
 

Mrs. Shaver has been nominated 3 years for Academy Counselor of the Year (2013,2014,2016).

Saisha Meredith

Academy of Health Sciences

 

Mrs. Meredith has been a part of the school counseling team at Hillwood for four years. She received her undergraduate degree at University of Indianapolis in social work. After college she moved to Nashville to start the school counseling master's program at Vanderbilt University. While in grad school, Mrs. Meredith had the opportunity to do one of her internships at Hillwood and has been here since graduating.  Her passion in the counseling field is working with students along the college and career process. She also coaches Hillwood's cross-country team, so you may see her out running in the neighborhood.

Catherine Thomas

Freshman Academy

 

Ms. Thomas earned her undergraduate degree in psychology/sociology at Tennessee State University.  She then returned to TSU for a master’s degree in School counseling and graduated 2013.  This is her 6th year at Hillwood High School.  As the Freshman Academy counselor her mission is to transition student into the high school environment, allow them to learn skills necessary for students to advance to the sophomore year and beyond, and to challenge students through a rigorous curriculum in a nurturing environment.
